He really thinks he’s the future leader of Afghanistan. He writes off Pakistan as a has-been and sees no need to engage it. Can he escape the fate of other puppets: Karmal, Amin and Najibullah? A Pakistani diplomat’s account of meeting Abdullah Abdullah at an international conference in Morocco in November 2010.
Today, Gandhi’s nation is teeming with Hindu extremist groups and the state is armed to the teeth with latest weapons, while most Indians remain poor. Gandhi admirers forget that he was assassinated by the Indians themselves.
Typical of its small mindset that contradicts its claims to superpower status, India made Obama’s first day of the visit about Pakistan instead of it being about India. And it flatly lost.
Ignoring unwarranted US meddling, China and Pakistan are going ahead with a fifth nuclear reactor for civilian uses in Pakistan. Discussions are underway for a breakthrough: a one-gigawatt nuclear reactor. The Sino-Pak civil nuclear cooperation will go a long way in resolving Pakistan’s acute energy shortfall, thereby helping stabilize Pakistan economically and politically.
This is a scandal 500 times bigger than Pakistan Steel. What were the top foreign executives doing in Islamabad? Why foreign companies are being given a generous 75% share? The Supreme Court of Pakistan must intervene before the deal is sealed, although Balochistan chief minister says Pakistan’s interest will be protected.
A new study released by Project For Pakistan In 21st Century in Islamabad advises the Pakistani government and military to adopt a ‘calm and defensive’ posture in dealing with US military threats against the country. The report reveals that the United States is using two words in its approach toward Pakistan: ‘Fragmentation’ and ‘Mistrust. The cover of the study uses the expression ‘Divide Your Enemy’ to reflect Washington’s current Pakistan policy. Project Pakistan 21, as the think tank is known, is an independent policy research institute based in Islamabad.

If Pakistani politicians fail to build consensus, will they agree then on the need to step aside, spare us their chaotic politics, and let the rest of us force changes into the system to allow new thinking and new faces?

Why should the US government respect us when we undersell ourselves?
Foreign Minister Qureshi angered Turkey and Iran, and gave a concession to Washington for free. He forgot that his logic can be used against Pakistan—his American friends say India is not a threat, so why the Pakistani nukes?
Khalilzad, who is no friend of Pakistan, is a good friend of our President Asif Zardari. Recently, Mr. Khalilzad visited Mr. Zardari in Islamabad. Reports suggest Mr. Khalilzad conveyed a message to Washinngton: Support Zardari to support America. And cut off the Pakistani military. If true, no surprises here.
Forget the Clinton-Qureshi talks. Remember the Talbott-Shamshad strategic dialogue in 1998? The declared aim was better bilateral relations but in reality the talks were a cover for US ideas on how Pakistan should maintain its nuclear weapons. The Americans have a long history of saying one thing and meaning something else. US wants Pakistan Army to launch North Waziristan war to isolate Pakistan from Afghan Taliban and future US-Taliban contacts could exclude Pakistan.

Was the green light given to CIA during the last round? Can our Foreign Minister Qureshi tell us if President Zardari gave the green light for CIA to kill innocent Paksitanis? Who in Islamabad is responsible for the deaths of innocent and patriotic Pakistanis in our tribal belt?

The riddle of Pak-US Strategic Dialogue is easy to solve: US won’t cut much slack to Pakistan to appease India and absorb the historical Indian negativity toward Pakistan.

Why whine about weapons worth two billion dollars to Pakistan, over five years, when India is spending fifteen times that figure in less than two years? Welcome to a big country with the brain of a mouse. It’s a mind problem.
It is amazing that the mainstream US media is now deciding how the Pakistani media should conduct itself. It is a natural follow-up to US politicians and think-tank types deciding who should rule Pakistan and who shouldn’t, and who should be the designated enemy of Pakistan and who isn’t. In blaming the Americans, we also blame ourselves, our political and military rulers who emboldened foreigners to meddle in our affairs.
