The paranoid elected government of President Asif Zardari has been out battling shadows and ghosts, whipping up anti-military sentiment when the military never planned a coup of any sort against him. His problems are with the Supreme Court on legal grounds. To calm frayed nerves, it appears Gen. Kayani agreed to let Zardari and Gilani issue a statement on the three’s commitment to ‘defending’ democracy. Pakistani military could also be bound by ’sovereign guarantees’ given as back as 2007 stating that Pakistani military won’t destabilize a government created through the US-sponsored NRO deal.

In his latest write up for BBC, Pentagon adviser Ahmed Rashid proposes putting Pakistan under an international trusteeship. Too bad he forgot that Pakistan is not under US or NATO occupation. Ahmed Rashid leads the pack of pro-US and pro-UK activists in Pakistan, whose work is tailored to please a foreign audience. But he is not alone. There is Dr. Hafeez Shaikh and Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, Pakistan’s key economic managers. The United States does not need to invade and occupy Pakistan and execute a regime-change like it did in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Pakistan, Washington is using apologists in politics, media and intelligentsia who are willing accomplices without Washington having to fire a single bullet.
Some government-linked politicians have been whispering to the media that ISI and MI did it because they were enraged at Mr. Cheema’s coverage of the ‘missing persons’ issue. That might be, but what about the government avenging Mr. Cheema’s groundbreaking story on how President Zardari and his aides hired Turkish female ‘escorts’ and failed to pay them their dues resulting in a court case in Turkey?
US ambassador Anne W. Patterson is secretly meeting opposition politicians to quietly convince them not to jeopardize the government of President Asif Ali Zardari. She is also making one more request: Can you issue a public statement supporting President Obama’s new plan for Afghanistan, please?

This report, first published in August 2008, is reproduced here to provide context to the determined Pakistani military operation against terrorists coming from Afghanistan. Pakistan’s largest English-language daily, The News, ran this on its front page, written by Kamran Khan, an investigative reporter who has worked for The Washington Post. The mainstream Am-Brit media continues to ignore this story and keeps the American and the British public unaware of the double game that their governments are playing in our region. Two senior U.S. military officials who secretly visited Pakistan in July 2008 faced tense moments when former President Musharraf, Army Chief Gen. Kayani and the ISI chief at the time confronted them with evidence that portrayed a pattern of American support for separatist, sectarian and religious terrorism inside Pakistan with help from Indian intelligence operatives based in major Afghan cities. The two embarrassed Americans, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen and CIA Deputy Director Stephen R. Kappes, came to lecture Pakistanis on what role ISI should play but ended up receiving an earful. It is a rare inside story of how Islamabad confronted Washington about what appears to be a clear case of betrayal, where Washington conspired with Karzai and the Indians against its own staunch ally.
